Taking the time to invest in your personal and professional growth empowers you to live the life you envision. Each year, I start with SMART goals which are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely. An example of a SMART goal would be exercising for 60 minutes a day, three days a week for the next 90 days. Having these clear, concise goals allow you to remain focused, which avoids wasting time.

Spending time learning something new each week through reading, podcasts, or other media helps maintain an agile mind. I recommend aiming to acquire new knowledge on topics that relate to your short-term or long-term goals. During my morning commute, I start my day off with a podcast. Business podcasts, modern thinking in the work place, and strengthening professional relationships.

Value your intuition; it’s there for a reason! Listening to your intuition enables you to make the right decisions. When you pay attention to how you feel, it will help you make smarter decisions. If an opportunity doesn’t excite you to your core, it’s most likely not the best option for you. There is no motive so pure as that of a gut instinct!

Attending conferences, workshops, and seminars encourages your own creativity. RDH Evolution was created specifically for dental hygienists who want to expand their current roles. The 2-½ day career-building conference will help participants achieve clarity about their career. Panel discussions, networking opportunities, and one-on-one coaching is provided to attendees. The lectures will be focused on becoming an educator, speaker, consulting, business owner, and public health hygienist.

Your future largely depends on how you invest your time and strengths. If you feel like you’re not utilizing your unique traits, it’s time to make a change. I encourage you to get uncomfortable in 2018 and build the life you’ve always dreamt of. The best investment you can make is in yourself, start today!
